Former Mets Star Endy Chavez to Play in Local Showdown at Oakwood Park

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - This Sunday, June 30, at 1 p.m., Oakwood Park will host a highly anticipated matchup as the New Providence Reds (5-1) take on the undefeated Caciques de Venezuela (5-0). Adding star power to the game, former Mets outfielder Endy Chavez will be playing for the opposition. Chavez, renowned for his unforgettable game-saving catch in the 2006 playoffs, brings a level of excitement and experience that promises to elevate the game.


In Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals, Chavez made an extraordinary leaping catch at the wall to rob Scott Rolen of a home run. This play, which took place in the 6th inning, kept the game tied and is considered one of the greatest defensive plays in MLB playoff history. Despite the Mets ultimately losing the game and the series, Chavez's catch remains a highlight reel favorite and a legendary moment in Mets history.


Chavez played in the MLB for several teams, including the Kansas City Royals, Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and Seattle Mariners. Known for his defensive skills and speed, Chavez carved out a reputation as a reliable outfielder and a fan favorite.
